Fresh Ice is a college hockey newsletter created by me, Bailey Johnson. I covered Michigan hockey for the last two seasons and fell in love with college hockey as a product in the process. I firmly believe that there’s a market for college hockey coverage, so here I am, dipping my toe in the water.
For now, this will be the home of all of my personal projects I’ve been working on throughout the coronavirus lockdown. Eventually, I hope to turn this into a paid subscription model and offer day-to-day game coverage, but for now, this is the spot for all of my projects, musings and thoughts.
Sign up now so you don’t miss the first issue, which is coming very, very soon!
Why sign up?
Joining the mailing list will bring you at least one new story every week, whether that’s an in-depth analytical look at a player, a tracking project, an interview or just a collection of my thoughts. I can’t promise all of my thoughts are worth reading, but I’ll do my best to bring you unique and interesting content on a regular basis.
If (when) college hockey comes back, I hope to be in a position to be creating content on a daily basis. If (when) that’s the case, I’ll turn this into a paid subscription model but still offer one or two stories each week for free.
I’ll also have mailbags, subscriber chats, and anything else you can think of as a perk for people who subscribe. If you want to be a part of shaping what that community looks like, subscribe and let me know your thoughts!
Who am I?
I’m assuming most people who indulge me enough to sign up for this know me, but if you don’t, hello and welcome! My name is Bailey and I’m a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, where I covered Michigan hockey for The Michigan Daily for two seasons.
I probably spent more time at Yost than I did at my house in my senior year, and I loved every second of it. When the season ended early due to COVID-19, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t finished covering college hockey. I love the sport and I believe that there’s a market for expanding college hockey coverage, so here I am.
When I’m not thinking or writing about hockey, which is basically all the time, I’m at home in Atlanta playing with (read: irritating) my dog and reading everything I can get my hands on.
I’m so excited to be starting this platform and I hope you’ll all join me in my pursuit of expanding the college hockey landscape.
The first issue of Fresh Ice will be coming very soon, so if you want to be one of the first people to get your hands on it, subscribe right here!
